Fraunhofer IBMT at IAA 2015
Fraunhofer IBMT presents Ultrasound Technology and Mobile Lab Technologies
The use of ultrasound in vehicles of all kinds is one of the focuses of the department of ”Technical Ultrasound“ at the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering IBMT. Sensors and systems are developed for distance monitoring and obstacle detection (parking assistant), for flow metering (exhaust), for level metering and fuel characterization (tank) as well as for interior monitoring (burglary prevention). Furthermore, another core competence of the Fraunhofer IBMT is the conceptual design of mobile laboratories. The whole service from conceptual design to consulting and support during implementation to operating of the laboratory is offered by the business area “Laboratory Technology”. “Technical Ultrasound” and “Laboratory Technology” present their competences exhibiting a model of a Pick-Up with a laboratory van body.
Since more than 30 years the department of “Technical Ultrasound” deals with the use of ultrasound in different fields of application. From simulation-based concept to ready-to-go into production, the whole spectrum of sensor, electronic and software development is offered. In automotive applications, ultrasound systems for cars and trucks are developed. The applications range from low-cost units for the bumper (parking assistant) to complex units for level metering in hydrogen tanks (fuel cell).
Furthermore, Fraunhofer IBMT is strongly involved in the field of mobile laboratories since 2005. Starting with the design and development of units for its own use, this field of work matured over the last decade within several projects. Today, Fraunhofer IBMT is mainly working in the area of consulting and conceptual design of mobile analytical and medical solutions for third parties. Together with partners from the network “Labor der Zukunft”, Fraunhofer IBMT offers solutions made to measure including selection of suitable instruments and manufacturers. Fraunhofer IBMT is also operating a mobile BSL-2 unit for the German environmental specimen bank ESB since 2013.
About Fraunhofer IBMT
The Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering IBMT acts as device and technology developer when it comes to the solution of individual research and development projects and tasks from the areas of biomedical/medical engineering, molecular and cellular biotechnology, biohybrid technology, cryo(bio)technology and nano(bio)technology, ultrasound technology, neuroprosthetics/implants, (mobile) laboratory technology, sensor and measurement technology, health telematics, environmental control systems, material testing, home systems, air quality control and security systems as well as laboratory automation including in-line/on-line process and quality control.
